Katja Dunkel, LL.M.

Katja, founder of DUNKEL RICHTER, advises private individuals, solo self-employed persons and small to medium-sized companies. She supports artists in all areas of media and copyright law and represents clients in all matters of press and publicity law.

One of her main areas of practice is the cooperation with agencies, screenwriters, production companies and artist collectives. She is participating in series and cinema productions and is active in the areas of contract drafting and consulting as well as final contract negotiations in the field of film and authorship law.

Katja teaches design and copyright law at the Designhaus Halle and gives workshops for students and start-ups.

She studied law at the Westfälische Wilhelms University in Münster. After her first state examination, she went to England for an LL.M. degree (focus on commercial law) and then completed her legal clerkship in Cologne and New York. After working as legal counsel and data protection officer in a Berlin startup, she worked as an attorney at JBB Rechtsanwälte in the field of media and copyright law before finally founding DUNKEL RICHTER in February 2021.

Katja is a member of the German Women Lawyers Association (djb).

Katja successfully completed the specialist lawyer course “Fachanwalt für Medien- und Urheberrecht” in 2023. In addition to her participation in various podcasts, she contributes to panel talks and book contributions.
